Senior Networking Engineer

Job Reference : RUFF – CODE – R3000

We are looking for a candidate with experience of developing real-time game networking architecture and systems.

The successful candidate will be required to lead a small networking team and will be responsible for the design and implementation of new networking systems including dedicated servers in an existing AAA game codebase. The candidate will also need to work closely with both the project lead and the systems engineers that are responsible for integration with our publishing partner’s backend services.

The candidate will join an established team most of whom are senior industry veterans. The work itself is on a large but well understood code base with a long heritage of shipped titles on multiple platforms. This of course comes with all of the benefits and challenges an experienced devleoper would expect a legacy codebase to carry.

Longer term networking is a core feature for most games we develop and beyond this project we see this as a key role for the studio.

Responsibilities

  • Responsible for delivering real time networking components for a current generation console/PC title
  • Leading a small group of experienced engineers to implement this networking solution to a given schedule
  • Working closely with systems engineers, project lead and technical director to effectively communicate design and integrate with existing systems.

Qualifications

  • A good degree in computer science, mathematics, equivalent degree or equivalent track record in software development

Essential Skills / Experience

  • Has designed and implemented or otherwise been instrumental in shipping a title with significant real time networking requirements
  • Is a senior engineer (3 years plus)
  • Fluent in modern C++, VC14 preferable (3 years plus)

Desirable Skills / Experience

  • Preferably has shipped a console product within strict bandwidth and performance targets
  • Has experience working with first person shooters engines/requirements
  • Has worked on a first party project with one of the console vendors
  • Has worked with large, legacy code bases
  • Has applicable current generation console experience
  • Has experience with the Azure platform or similar cloud computing platform
  • Understanding of Windows Store
  • Understanding of Windows 10 Unified App Platform

Location

Ideally this would be an in house appointment at our Dundee office. That said we are open to discussing off-site working and something we would be able to offer to the right candidate. We already work off-site with key members of our team who are able to demonstrate that they are motivated self-starters able to organize their time and attention effectively.
